Enabling Camera & Microphone access on a PC, Windows, or Microsoft device

Modified on Tue, 28 Mar 2023 at 10:50 AM

By default, applications on Windows devices have permission to share the camera and microphone, but sometimes this setting can get changed or turned off by mistake.

You'll want to make sure that the browser you are using to join your InSpace session has permission to access your Camera and Microphone. Here's how to do this.

  1. Open the Start Menu, then select Settings.
  2. From the navigation menu, select Privacy (or, Privacy & security, depending on your version).
  3. Locate the category labeled App Permissions.
  4. Open Camera and make sure that the option to Allow desktop apps to access your camera is toggled on. In Windows 11, this option is labeled Let desktop apps access your camera.
  5. Then, make sure that your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave) has been granted permission to access your camera as well.
  6. Go back to the App Permissions menu and choose Microphone. Again, make sure that the option to Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is toggled on. In Windows 11, this option is labeled Let desktop apps access your microphone.
  7. Then, make sure that your browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Brave) has been granted permission to access your microphone as well.
